Barbara Jean McAlpine, 86, formerly of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February, 18, 2017 at the Harrisburg Hospital.

She was born on March, 17, 1930 in Princeton, Maine, and was the daughter of the late, Chester A. and Clara M. (James) Fitch.

Barbara was retired from the Federal Government where she was employed at the New Cumberland Army Depot.

She was of the protestant faith and was a member of the National Association for Retired Employees and also of the Air Force Sergeant Association Auxiliary. She enjoyed animals and was a generous contributor to many different animal associations. 

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Calvin A. McAlpine; a brother, Donald Fitch and a grandson, Dustin McAlpine.

She is survived by her two loving sons, Ronald McAlpine and his wife Diane of Crawford, Maine and Richard McAlpine and his wife, Terri of Newport; a sister, Stella Kneeland of Calais, Maine; four grandsons and six great-grandchildren. 

A tribute to her life will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Middletown with the Rev. Bradley Moore officiating. Viewing will be from 11:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. 

Burial will be at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or Animal Charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Harrisburg Hospital for their care and compassion that was shown to their mother.
