Bangor Savings Brings Rare Disease Awareness

By Amy Jeanroy

The last day of February each year is designated as Rare Disease Day, to help bring awareness and support to the 30 million Americans who are affected by rare and genetic diseases.

According to the website, globalgenes.org, it is reported that 350 million people worldwide suffer from rare and genetic diseases and 30% of children with these debilitating diseases will not live to see their 5th birthday. There are more than 7,000 distinct types of rare and genetic diseases, and more are being discovered every day.

Bangor Savings is bringing awareness to the day by offering a small, denim ribbon to be worn as a symbol of hope and awareness for people fighting rare diseases. For more information and ways to help, visit their website, or find the organization on Facebook by looking for the name Global Genes.
