Luke 18:1 “…men always ought to pray and not lose heart…”

A couple of weeks ago, there was so much snow that I could barely get out of my house.  The storm was so bad that even the state plow trucks had to temporarily halt operations because they couldn’t see!  When I walked outside and stepped in knee-high snow, I was thinking, “Wow, wouldn’t it be nice to live in Florida right now?”  A couple of weeks later, the temperature is in the 40’s and the snow is melting away.

It’s amazing how fast the weather can change, especially in Maine!  It’s a lot like life’s circumstances.  Things are always changing, people are coming and going in our lives, and there are lots of ups and downs.  Sometimes we’ll feel like we’re on top of the world, and everything is going great (just like this beautiful weather we’re having).  Other times, we’ll feel like life is overwhelming (like the huge blizzard we had), and we feel like we can’t go on, or that we can’t handle it.

But as we go through this journey called “life”, we don’t need to be alone.  Scripture tells us that God will never leave or forsake those who are part of His family.  As Christians, we believe that, but when tough times come and things aren’t going our way, it’s hard to remember.  That’s why Jesus tells us to always pray and not lose heart.  He’s with us and won’t abandon us.  He’s there for us to lean on when we feel like we can’t go on.  Scripture also tells us that we can cast all our cares upon Him, because He cares for us.  Nothing will ever change that.

One of the deacons at our church sang a beautiful song at church on Sunday, and I think the words describe this perfectly.  It’s the song “God on the Mountain”, written by Lynda Randle.

“Life is easy, when you're up on the mountain. And you've got peace of mind, like you've never known.  But things change, when you're down in the valley.  Don't lose faith, for you’re never alone.  For the God on the mountain, is still God in the valley.  When things go wrong, he'll make them right.  And the God of the good times, is still God in the bad times. The God of the day, is still God in the night.  We talk of faith way up on the mountain.  But talk comes easy, when life's at its best.  Now it’s down in the valley, trials and temptations.  That's where your faith is really put into the test.”

What a beautiful song with such truthful words.  If you have put your trust and faith in Jesus Christ, then you’re never alone.  Through anything and everything, He is with you, and nothing will ever change that.  If you haven’t trusted in Him, there’s still time.  Turn to Him today.  Scripture says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.”  When you do, you’ll never be alone again.
