Defeat Top Rated Southern Aroostook 32-29

The #2 seeded Tigerettes squared off Saturday morning in the Cross Center against #1 rated Southern Aroostook that had previously only one loss on the season to Woodland High School. The Tigerettes came out in the first half a little tense resulting in a number of missed shots as the taller hosts took advantage of their height on both ends of the court resulting in an 18-10 advantage midway. Kassidy Mathers led her squad with 6-points that half while Shead had Holly Preston connecting for six.

Coach Dean Preston had a good talk with his players at the half resulting in the Tigerettes firing on all cylinders on both ends of the floor. In the third the guests held SA to just five points, and while the Warriors focused on Holly Preston, Cassidy Wilder and Madison Greenlaw poured in 6/5 points respectively closing out the quarter all tied at 23-23.

The final stanza proved to be anyone’s games as the score fluctuated only on few points for the entire eight minutes. The Tigerettes earned a lone point lead and with ten seconds left on the clock the Warriors had possession and a chance to tie the game if fouled and win if they scored. On a shot taken in close, the ball bounded slightly to the left of the glass and veteran Holly Preston grabbed the rebound and rather than waiting to be fouled she took the ball quickly down the full length of the court and laid it in just as the final buzzer sounded – giving the Lady Tigerettes the 2017 Northern Regional Championship!

Holly Preston again led her squad scoring 14 points with 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Madison Greenlaw netted 10 points, had 5-boards, and 2 blocked shots. Cassidy Wilder hit 8-points with 5 boards, and a blocked shot. Kaitlyn Mitchell pulled in 3-boards, and had 2 steals. Hallie Sullivan had an assist and rebound. Kassidy Mathers paced SA with 10 points.
