This has been a trying year for the Calais Middle/High School Band. They have had multiple instructors and struggled to hold this music program together. The annual Band Spaghetti supper is a big fundraiser for the band, and in this trying year the students and parents of the band pulled together a successful meal.

The meal was held at the First Congregational Church in Calais on Tuesday night from 4:30 to 6pm. For $8 guests got a spaghetti dinner including cake that you could eat in or get in a to-go container. Guests could also buy tickets for a Chinese auction with items donated by the students and their families. All the money raised from the evening goes to the Calais Band Program.

The money raised helps the Band Program with their financial needs for equipment to keep the program going. The money from the Spaghetti supper also helps send the students on their annual band trip to Boston. The Band trip introduces the students to many of the musical experiences Boston has to offer as well as rewarding the students for a year of dedication and hard work in the band program.

“It’s not just about Band Class. It’s about pulling the students and the community together,” Calais High School Junior Kylie Donovan said about Tuesday’s dinner. By the end of the evening the Spaghetti dinner had raised close to $1400 to support the program.

The only harder thing than getting a spaghetti supper together is cleaning up after one. Band member Halen Harris helped some of the parents in the kitchen cleaning up after the meal on Tuesday. (Photo by Kaileigh Deacon).
