“Songs For Sailing An Emerald Sea”

St. Patrick’s Month will be celebrated at the Pembroke Library on Wednesday, March 29th, 7:00 PM, when America’s Easternmost Chantey Group, “From Away Downeast,” with fiddle, button accordion, banjo, and harmonica, will lead the audience in singing traditional songs of Ireland, of the Irish in America, and of the Irish at sea. Most of the songs come from the 1800s, when Irishmen and Irishwomen sailed to all parts of the world, Irish patriots fought for freedom, and the Irish everywhere sang of love and good fellowship. Some of the songs are heart-wrenching. Some are hilarious.  All speak of the real life struggles of people, all people, everywhere. Besides the songs there will be jigs, reels and hornpipes on fiddle, traditional work songs, and lots of rousing choruses for the audience to sing along.

The Wednesday, March 29th Chantey Sing concert and sing-along starts at 7 PM. Admission is Free. The Pembroke Library, which full handicap access, is located at 221 Old County Road, south of U.S. 1, across from the Pembroke fairgrounds and horse track.
