Letter to the Editor

To The Editor:

Attention all retirees in Maine who are being double-taxed! The state you worked in by its mandate withdrew money every year from your wages up until your retirement. This was done to enable you to have no state income tax after you retired. But you moved to Maine which does not recognize you put this money aside and it unjustly burdens you with being taxed again! The Committee on Taxation of the Maine Legislature in Augusta is having a public hearing for a bill LD 935.  Representative Lydia Blume is sponsoring this bill which will stop double-taxation of  Maine retirees if passed into law this year.  The hearing will be on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 1:00 pm in the State House's Room 127. There are many ways to show your support of this bill! Attend the hearing in person.  Or use the website http://mainelegislature.org to email the Committee on Taxation as a group or to its individual members. Or leave a message on the Committee's phone number of 287-1552.  Or write a letter to Dianne Dubord, the Clerk of the Committee of Taxation, c/o Legislative Information Office, 100 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333. Be proactive and be heard as quickly as possible.
