Dragons Win Three Contests

 

In the opening of four contests this past week the Calais Blue Devils rebounded from an earlier loss to Woodland with Caden Williams posting a superb 1-hitter as Alex Morrison – singled in the top of the seventh. Caden earned 12 strikeouts with just 2-walks in the 9-0 victory. Matt Perkins and Kobe Gillespie each collected a single/double in the victory. Hornbrook, Williams, McClellan, and Critchley each added a hit.

Against the #3 rated Shead Tigers, sophomore Luke McDonald hurled a beautiful 1-hitter that featured 14 strikeouts. Justin Monk led the Dragons attacked with two doubles; Miller, Morrison, and McDonald each added a single. Pitcher Ethan Lank had the lone hit in the fourth for the Tigers.

The #2 Dragons hosted Hodgdon on Wednesday and battled to another 2-1 victory in the bottom of seven when hit batter, walks, and a leadoff double by Luke McDonald produced the two runs needed for the victory. Luke had a great night pacing the Woodland offense with two doubles; Morrison and Grimanis added a hit apiece. Hodgdon had three hits with one each by Tuttle, Belaya, and Foster, in a fine pitching performance by Micheal Grimanis.

In the fourth contest of the week, on Friday the Dragons played host to Machias and easily powered to an 8-1 decision as Gavin Gardner paced the attack with a single/double – Miller, Morrison, Monk, and Grimanis also added hits in the win. Machias leadoff hitter Camon Johnson had a lone single for the guests.

The Blue Devils played at Harrington this past week and took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2ND as Sockabasin, Critchley, and Collins earned singles driving in the 3-runs. The Knights slowly battled back adding 1 in the3rd and tying the game with 2 in the 5TH. The win came in the top of seven when 2-hits produced 3-runs to secure a 6-3 victory for the guests. Socobasin and Collins led Calais with 3 & 2-singles respectively, while Perkins, Gillespie, and McLellan collected 1 hit-each.
