The St. Croix International Quilters, a chapter of the Pine Tree Guild of Maine, continues to provide comfort to Hospice clients in Washington and Charlotte counties with another donation of lap quilts.

Before the quilters’ June business meeting, lap quilt program coordinators Wanda Pollock and Peggy Brownlee presented Barbara Barnett (Down East Hospice Volunteer Services) and Cathy Jackson (Hospice of Charlotte Inc.) with the brightly colored quilts.

Jackson stated that the quilts could not have come at a better time since she just gave the last one to a client that day. Barnett said that she ran out of quilts, “four clients ago.” Both thanked the quilters for the generosity.

Joining in the presentation were former Lap Quilt Coordinator Mary Louise Peters, Long arm quilter Marlene Wilbur, and SCIQ President Sue McIver. McIver assured Barnett and Jackson that more quilts will be delivered in a few months. “Some of the ladies need a little more time but we did not want you to wait any longer. We know there is a need.”

During the business meeting that followed, Secretary Jane Eaton read a heartfelt thank you note from a family member of a Hospice client who recently received one of the quilts.  She wrote of her mother’s gratitude for the gift and the great comfort it provided and continues to provide. “While we don’t do this to be thanked, it is good to know that our work is appreciated,” commented McIver.

The quilters meet on the third Wednesday of the month at the Methodist Homes Recreation Center at 6pm Eastern. Information on the quilters and their programs may be found on its website: Information about hospice services can be obtained by calling Jackson at (506) 465-0800 or Barnett at (207) 454-7521 ext. 126.
