Amelia Moody has joined the staff of Calais Elementary School to serve as interim music teacher while teacher Cynthia Dineen is on a one-year leave.  Miss Moody worked as a substitute music teacher at the end of last school year at the elementary school.

Miss Moody is a graduate of Calais High School as well as the University of Maine with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a concentration in the trombone. While she was in school, one of her favorite teachers was her father, Mr. Moody. “He has always been really involved in the school and the community,” Miss Moody said. She also had a lot of support from her high school music teacher, Mrs. Brennan, who has supported her both in and out of school.

Miss Moody will be teaching grades Pre-K through sixth grade general music classes in addition to Beginner Band, Advanced Band, and Chorus. “I really just want them to gain a love of music and learning. Even if they don’t play an instrument or sing in the chorus, I want them to learn something they didn’t already know,” Miss Moody said.

Even though she has only been hired for a one-year contract, Miss Moody is looking forward to working more with the kids at Calais Elementary School and making her mark on the Calais Music Program. She is looking forward to having her own classroom and getting her students engaged.

When she isn’t working, Miss Moody enjoys reading and spending time with her family.

“I want students to take away that there is more than just music. There is so much you can take away from music that people don’t realize, there is so much culture.”
