Calais Elementary School Message

To all Calais Elementary students and families who were at Calais Elementary School last year, Welcome Back!  To all new students and families, Welcome!  For new families, I normally send a letter home every Friday with your student to provide you with information about the happenings at Calais Elementary School as well as upcoming events and schedules at the school.

Your student should have taken home a folder with important papers that need to be completed and sent back to school.  These include a lunch form, emergency cards, student handbook, etc.   If you have not completed these, please do so ASAP and return them to the school.

As many of you have heard, instead of early release this year, we are trying delayed starts.  There will be four this year, with the first one being Wednesday, September 20th.  School will be delayed for 2.5 hours.  The start time for school will be 10:30 am on those  days.  The bus schedule will be exactly the same only 2.5 hours later.  We will be offering our  delayed-start program on those days from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 as well as the regular after school program times.  For those of you who don’t know, we provide an after-school program for students until 5:30 p.m. at a charge of $3.00 per hour.  Same rate will apply to the delayed start service.

As we have done in past years, we are participating in the food backpack program with our local food pantry.  This program provides students with a bag of non-perishable food items to take home on Fridays for the weekend.  If you would like your student to participate in this program, please call Betsy at the elementary school (207) 454-2000.

Many of you have submitted your email address to receive the Friday letter in email form.  If you have not, but would like to receive the letter by email, please give Betsy in the office your email address and she will add you to the mailing list.  We also submit paper copies to those who would like the Friday letter in that format.  If you want a paper copy, please have your student notify their teacher.

Thank you for your commitment to your students and our school.
