For a lot of kids, the first day of school is both fun and a little scary as well. Calais Elementary School has a new teacher to help with this transition; Carrie Gaudette will join Kari Cole as the second kindergarten teacher.

Carrie Gaudette has been a teacher since 1999. She began her career in Indian Township before spending the last two years teaching at Meroby Elementary School in Mexico, Maine. Her time teaching has given her a lot of experience in several grade levels including Pre-K, First, Second, Fourth, and now at Calais Elementary School, she will be teaching Kindergarten. Ms. Gaudette earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Maine.

She is excited to be back working in Washington County, especially in Calais. Kindergarten will be a new experience for her as well but Ms. Gaudette is excited. “I love getting them to open their minds with school and to have fun while learning.”

When she’s not in the classroom getting kids excited about learning, Ms. Gaudette enjoys reading a little bit of everything. She also enjoys being outdoors and traveling, especially places that are warm.

“I have never thought about doing anything else. I love when back to school comes and all the school supplies come out. I love school supplies,” Ms. Gaudette said.

There is a lot that goes into being a teacher but there is so much the students give to their teachers in return. Ms. Gaudette hopes that her students are able to take away a love of learning and the willingness to try new things while not being afraid to fail.
