Our last community picnic of the season will be this Wednesday, September 13. Our weather this week is suppose to be quite nice.  Let’s meet at Farm Cove Dam at 5:00.

As Andy and I traveled the 5200 road between Route 9 and Grand Lake Stream this past weekend we could not help but notice the beginning of the trees starting to change color. The fall is a favorite time of year for me with the warm sunshine, cooler days and comfortable sleeping at night.

On Thursday, September 14th, Downeast Lakes Land Trust welcomes forest ecologist and local bird expert Marion Bates for a birding walk in the Downeast Lakes Community Forest.  Birders of all ages and skill levels are welcome, and should expect to encounter waterfowl, raptors, and migrating fall warblers.  Please bring binoculars and sturdy footwear, and meet at the Grand Lake Stream Dam parking lot.  For more information, please contact DLLT at 207-796-2100 or email

A thought to make you smile:  Grandparent is a little bit PARENT, a little bit TEACHER and a little bit BEST FRIEND!  (No wonder it is such fun to be a grandparent).
