St. Croix Country Club Notes

Course In Fantastic Shape

The golf course is still in great shape and it appears mother nature feels a bit guilty after the terrible spring she dealt us! If you know anyone that might be interested in picking up the game, this is a great opportunity to bring them out with no crowds, great weather, and dramatically reduced greens fees. As of yesterday, the club is offering  $10 / 9-hole greens fees and just $5 more to ride!  We also have the early membership program available again this year.... where any new member joining the club now for next season plays the rest of this season FREE! This program locks you in for last year’s membership rates and automatically enters you in our pre-pay program lottery for a future FREE membership.

What a month of stellar golf we've had at the Croix in August carrying into September! The lucky number was 68 in the Everett Meader Memorial and the Indian Days Tourney. James Macdonald walked away with top honors in the Meader, and Pat Ellis carding the same score in the Indian Days.

Seventeen-Under par in a scramble is a tough number to reach with all 14 clubs at your disposal, but it's impressive, to say the least, with only 3 clubs to work with!!! That's right, the team of Jason Redding, Brian McArthur, Corey Sullivan, and Josh McGuire shot -17 in the 3-Club Challenge.

We had another full field in the FULL TILT GOLF tourney, and all the participants were treated to wonderful tee gifts and a steak BBQ provided by John Marchese, the owner /operator of Ceaser’s Bar and Grill, the title sponsor for the event.  The defending champions, Toby Cole and James Macdonald put together another great 27 hole round to make it back-to-back wins.

Team St. Croix Country Club brought the Washington County Cup back to the Croix where it belongs and is currently displayed in the clubhouse with pride. St. Croix dominated this years' competition 17 points to Barren Views' 7. The 2017 Cup Team members- Don Walker, Bill Annas, John Marchese, Jason Redding, Darin Hill, Bob Davis, Mark Altvater, John Rogers, James Macdonald, Josh Thornton, Pat Ellis, and Sam Bell.   Job well done guys.

Last but certainly not least, this years club championship was very exciting with some "new blood" in the winner’s circle. Last year, John Marchese won his 9th Club Championship and Fran Lacoute her 16th. This year, it was a much different story with both Men’s and Ladies’ Champions being first-time winners. Toby Cole took home top honors in the tournament for the men and Ashley Macdonald for the ladies.  Frank Cleaves won the men’s 2nd Division and Alex Nicholas the men’s 3rd. We also had a new Junior Club Champion this year, with Gavin Bowen winning in a tight competition over the weekend. Congratulations to all the winners, it certainly was a great weekend of golf.

There are a few events remaining on the schedule as things wind down for the season. Coming up on Sunday, October 1st is the ever popular FLOG nine-hole tourney. That's a 2-Person Scramble playing the course in reverse and is always great fun.

Rounding out this year’s schedule, is the combination of the the Annual Par 3 tourney and the Closing Dinner and Awards. At the conclusion of the 18 hole Par 3 tourney, Divots will host a Spaghetti Dinner and immediately following will be the Club Awards Ceremony. As per tradition, we will be presenting awards for the Volunteer of the Year, Men’s Twi-Lite League, President's Cup, D. Ellis Cup, M. Campbell Cup, and all of the Club Championship Division awards. If you've been lucky enough to have won any of the above awards or just simply want to come and support the winners, please make it a point to attend.  The awards ceremony following dinner will be around 5:00 p.m.

Finally, a reminder to all the 2017 tourney winners with prize cards to please get those used up by the end of this year. After December 31st, the 2017 prize cards are no longer redeemable. Also, please clear up any balances due in the pro shop or divots restaurant before we close for the season. Thanks for another great season at the Croix!

As usual, thanks for your continued support of the St. Croix C.C., Mike
