Princeton lost it’s Boston Post Cane recipient on Saturday. Harland Hitchings was a resident of our Town of Princeton since 1954. Harland had been very active in Princeton for many years...a Deacon in the Princeton Congregational Church, a Grand Master of the Masons, an active member of the Princeton Rod & Gun Club, a board member of Greenland Point Center and a member of the St. Croix Valley Amateur Radio Club among his many activities. We had fun working with Harland on the Fresh Water Festival Cribbage Tournament. He may have been 95 but was still very active and will be missed.

The Princeton Library had the help of Bob Wallace who used his expertise to jack hammer the old handicapped access ramp, which was no easy task. The ramp was moved from the side to the front of the library because ice from the roof would slide down on it in the winter. Also it was becoming a hazard with the equipment for the heat pump/air conditioner unit and kids hanging on the ramp. Moses Cilley removed all the debris. With the ramp gone, Bob noticed that the support beam on that side needed to be replaced. So now we can get that done, a new back door, close up the old book drop and get steps built.

It was nice to see Guel Roberts helping out at the town dump on Sunday. We sure miss seeing him there.

I can’t write my column today without a reference to the senseless slaughter in Las Vegas. Numbers don’t always tell the story but in thinking about it the 500 plus victims are more than two thirds of the population in our small town.
