“SHIPMATES” A Very Special Evening of Songs of the Sea

Music lovers and lovers of the sea are in for a great treat on Wednesday evening, October 25th, when the Pembroke Library’s monthly Chantey Sing presents “SHIPMATES,” with special guests Bob Zentz and Jeanne McDougall-Zentz, of Norfolk, Virginia. Bob, a former Coast Guardsman, has toured throughout North America and Western Europe, performing traditional songs of the sea, and songs of his own composition, on instruments ranging from 5-string banjo, to jaw harp, to hurdy-gurdy. A musician of great accomplishment and versatility, he has performed on many occasions with his long-time friend, Maine’s own Gordon Bok. Jeanne McDougall-Zentz, who recently received her PhD in early American political music, is Bob’s perfect compliment, adding her outstanding voice, instrumental versatility, and deep knowledge of historic song. Together, Bob and Jeanne are “Shipmates,” and their music captures the sometimes joyful, sometimes sorrowful, but always honest camaraderie of seafarers everywhere, and always.  Bob & Jeanne’s performance will be preceded with a short opening by Washington County’s own “From Away Downeast.”

The October 25th concert will be held at the fully handicap accessible Pembroke Library, 221 Old County Road, opposite the horse track and fair grounds. The concert starts at 6:30 PM. Admission is Free. Information at 207-726-4747, 207-726-4745, and seasonghistory@gmail.com
