Senior Health & Safety Expo

The Washington County Thriving in Place Initiative invites all seniors to the Senior Health & Safety Expo -- a special event created to address some of the most pressing issues facing our aging residents on October 21st from 9 a.m. to noon in the Multipurpose Room of the Maine Veterans’ Home in Machias.

Designed around issues of health and safety, this free event offers a unique opportunity for a private consultation with a licensed pharmacist to review your medications for dosage, drug interactions, and expiration dates.

No appointments needed, just bring your medications to the Expo between 9 am and Noon. While you’re there, sample some of Eastern Area Agency on Aging’s 3D catering meals, or take a balance test and find out how easy it is to give yourself a little support.

Enjoy a plate of fresh fruit or a cup of coffee and peruse exhibits, ask questions, take home materials and help yourself to many free gifts.

Displays include Down East Community’s Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy; adaptive equipment like stair lifts, personal safety alert systems, fraud prevention, Downeast Hospice Volunteers; nutrition guidelines and medical organizational tips from Healthy Acadia, tips on driving as we age from AAA, and much more.

Share your own tips on thriving in place and earn chances to win door prizes by visiting our exhibitors.

This event is hosted by the Maine Veterans’ Home in Machias, and coordinated by the Washington County Thriving in Place Initiative. To learn more about this initiative funded by the Maine Health Access Foundation, visit: www.cccmaine/services-programs/thriving-in-place.
