Another month is coming to a close.   Hopefully, all were properly stuffed with Thanksgiving dinner and the leftovers.  One of the best things about hosting a big meal is the leftovers.  One more Thanksgiving meal of turkey, special potatoes and side dishes a day or so after the holiday.  Then, turkey sandwiches, turkey ala king over puffed pastry shells and with the final leftovers, turkey pot pie and finally turkey barley soup prepared and put in the freezer for later.   That’s why we get a very big turkey!

Terry Reynolds’ home was filled with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day.  His brother Steve and wife traveled from Virginia to be here for the festivities.  There were at least 30 people at Terry’s for the meal, which included three turkeys and a ham and all the side dishes and desserts.  That’s a lot of food for a lot of people.

On Thanksgiving Day, Meddybemps Fire Department assisted with a house fire.  It was started by a turkey deep fryer in the garage which quickly swept through the garage and house. We hear the only things saved were the basement, and the turkey fryer of all things.  Thankfully no one was hurt.  Still very sad to lose so much in the middle of the holidays.

Upcoming December birthdays include Sally Ketchen on December 1, and Chris Gillespie on December 4.  Best wishes and many blessings to each of you.

Our weather continues to be a series of ups and downs, sunshine, rain and a few snow showers.  Last Tuesday the roads were sanded due to some black ice.  Monday morning we had an early morning dusting of snow which quickly melted as the temperatures rose.  The lake level is now back to normal.  It’s a relief to know there have been great benefits through the continuous rains, not to mention eliminating the previously high forest fire conditions.

Christmas is now seriously upon us.  Mark your calendars for Second Baptist Church Christmas Concerts.  Everyone is invited to the Children’s Christmas Contata on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. and the Dec. 18 Christmas Concert at 6:30 p.m. with Kathy Francis and friends celebrating with many beautiful and favorite Christmas songs.

That’s the news this week.  Please send yours to or phone 454-3719.
