To The Editor:

I took a walk on the beach and picked up trash. There is never a lack of styrofoam pieces. The muskrats love burrowing into those big slabs under docks and floats, and I get to pick up the resulting debris, as I’m sure others around the lake do, too.  The pieces don’t disappear. The life expectancy of styrofoam is long!  Maybe a rethink on the use of styrofoam on Meddybemps Lake is due?  This is just 5-10 minutes’ worth of pick up. I have literally picked up thousands, maybe millions? of pieces over the 13 years we have lived here. I have other photos if anyone wants proof of the ongoing styrofoam problem on the lake.
