Perry Church News

At the Perry Congregational Church the annual Hanging of the Greens was a worship service, a carol sing, violin music from some young people, putting up greens, the creche and other decorations and the first lighting of the Christmas candles.  The service ended with “Silent Night” accompanied by Kris Paprocki on the guitar. Because, a guitar substituted for an organ, the first time it was ever performed, many, many years ago in a Tyrollean village.  A mouse had nibbled a hole in the organ’s bellows, so … what to do?  The story of how the little song, written as a stop-gap piece for the Christmas service, was nearly lost and then rescued and became famous is quite amazing and wonderful. To hear it yourself, come next year on the 2nd Sunday in Advent.
