On December 16th, the United Veterans Honor Guard and local citizens honored multiple veterans and military monuments in Eastport with the laying of wreaths from Wreaths Across America. Heart of Maine Construction donated its truck and trailer to go pick up the wreaths while the United Veterans Honor Guard Unit performed the ceremony and laying of the wreaths.

Some of the honored this year was Mr. Bowman, a Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, Mr. Metcalf a Victorian Cross Recipient, Mr. Huntley a P.O.W., and many other veterans. “Next year, we hope to have a fund raiser and be able to honor every veteran in one cemetery, then rotate the cemeteries year by year,” shared Tim Tiess, site coordinator for Eastport.

Several military sites were honored with ceremonial wreaths, including the Civil War Monument (US Army Wreath) on Washington St., Coast Guard Station Eastport (US Coast Guard Wreath), and the Camp Lee Stephenson Monument (US Navy Wreath) off Rt. 190. The pier behind the Waco Dinner was chosen to honor all merchant ships both coming into and leaving the port of Eastport, and it now holds the US Merchant Marine Wreath.
