MaineCF Grants Available for Washington County Nonprofits

Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that draw on the strengths of the community and foster collaboration are encouraged to apply to the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

A volunteer committee of Washington County residents reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding. The deadline for applying is February 15, 2018. Application and guidelines are available at

In 2017, the committee awarded nearly $96,000 in grants to 14 nonprofits. They included:

-$9,805 to Shead High School, for restoration of the SHS greenhouse that will allow it to be used as a year-round growing/learning center for all students of Eastport Schools and the community       

-$7,000 to Hand in Hand / Mano en Mano, to provide a one-week bilingual summer program with the Maine Outdoor School to 30 children in western Washington County  

-$6,000 to Quoddy Tides Foundation, to develop the Place Over Time walking tour and related materials of the Tides Institute & Museum of Art’s six historic buildings and wider landscape.
