I haven’t received a lot of news this week for our locals but I know folks have been ice fishing, on trips to Bangor for the tournaments and fun, cheering competitions, snowmobiling and skiing trips.  If you and yours have done any of these fun things please let me know, my contact information is at the end of the column.  Thank you to those that have contributed, I really appreciate it.

I would like to congratulate the Calais High School and Woodland High School basketball teams on a great season and a job well done!  You entertained many while you honed your skills and you made your towns and community proud!  The season is not over for Woodland Boys as they are now Regional Champs!  Good luck this weekend when you “Go for the Gold”!

This week’s in-home business features Betty Jean Wallace, better known as BJ, of Alexander.  She has lived in Alexander for most of her life.  BJ is married to Joey Wallace, and they have two daughters, Lesliann and Josie and two grandsons, Michael and Eric.  BJ has worked at the Alexander Elementary School as the lunch lady for almost 19 years.  In her spare time she loves to craft and create.  She has a facebook page called Betty Jean Bags which showcases items she has made to sell.  BJ started with tote bags, purses and winter bags.  Her newest hobby is heat vinyl transfer for t-shirts.  BJ used this process to make AES themed shirts, but she can put just about anything on a t-shirt. She has done Walking Dead, Lil’ Bit Aud shirts for Audrey Rood’s farm and has done several with funny quotes and special ones for family members.  BJ has also been toying around with putting things on coffee mugs.  If you have a request or something specific in mind, you can message BJ on Facebook. She is always trying new things and up for a challenge and would love to work with folks to get a design that fits their needs.

Here are the newest details on the Alexander mapping progress.  Roger Holst called John Dudley and is progressing on Sheet 10, his neighborhood.  Jim Sullivan provided maps of 111 and 112 that help with the dimensions of the Damon Set-off.

Joe Hanson and John Dudley spent Tuesday morning measuring the six lots on Map 9 along the South Princeton Road.  Joe went to John’s house on Friday afternoon and they finished Sheet Three.

On Saturday morning Foster Carlow, Joe Hanson, Gerald Cooper, David Davis and John Dudley met at the AVFD Training Room.  Gerald has only to mark his sheet with corrections and will leave it with John.  Foster and John will meet this week to check his sheet. Nine sheets (of 16) are ready for inspection.

Don’t forget about the delicious roast pork dinner with all the fixings taking place at People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville on Thursday,  March 1st beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Lucky Loser this week at Randy’s Variety was Dick Preston.

This week has not been a good one for me.  My wheelchair is broken yet again, and I came down with a bad cold and cough that would not quit.  I missed my shopping trip to Bangor with friends and then missed the entire week at Center.  As a matter of fact, I haven’t left my house for 11 days.  Hopefully that will all change this week when I can get back to the Center.

If you have anything you would like me to share in this column, celebrations, bragging rights or news you can email me at, message me on facebook, or snail mail me at 1328 Airline Road, Alexander, ME  04694.  You can also call me at 454-2344 or drop off news at Randy’s Variety!  Until next time, stay safe.
