Matt Perkins Selected as McDonald's All-Star

Calais High School's Matt Perkins was selected as a 2018 Maine McDonald's High School All-Star.  This distinct honor allowed him the opportunity to play in the 38th annual all-star game (the 30th for Maine) held last Saturday at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor.

Being invited to participate in the Maine McDonald's High School Senior All-Star basketball game is a top honor.  The best Maine high school senior boys' and girls' basketball players and coaches, as well as senior academic standouts from across Maine, turn out with their families and fans for two days of recognition and tournament play.  Prior to the games, Matt--the only player selected from Washington County--and the other players took part in a community service event, along with a visit to the Ronald McDonald House of Bangor.

The games are also a charitable fundraising event with net proceeds from the games directly benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine (RMHC).  RMHC of Maine was founded in 1989 by the owner-operators of McDonald's restaurants in Maine and Eastern New Hampshire who had a vision of giving back to the community by supporting the children of Maine.

Selected players for the all-star teams were chosen from more than 100 high schools from across the state.  The all-stars were selected based upon ballot returns in a statewide high school basketball coaches' vote conducted by the MABC in January.  100% of the net proceeds from the games directly benefit the children and families served by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine.

Congratulations to Matt and the other selected all-stars.  Matt's team, the C/D boys North team, won the game against the south team, 114 to 89.
