The next Select Board Meetings are scheduled for Saturday, April 7th, 2018 and Saturday, May 5th, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m..  The Cooper office is open for regular office hours on the first and third Thursday of the month from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.  The next office hours are scheduled for Thursday, April 5th, 2018 and Thursday, April 19th, 2018 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The Cooper Cemetery Committee and the Maine Old Cemetery Association (MODA) have selected a date of June 2nd for the cleaning workshop of our older cemetery head and foot stones.  The workshop can accommodate up to twenty people and there are still openings for participants.   Anyone wishing to participate in the Cooper Cemetery Committee in our search for historic stones or those wishing to take part in the class should contact Karen Holmes at 454-2583 or Bill Krider at 214-5893 to sign up.

A longtime Cooper resident, Ralph Flood needs some support from our town and friends from the surrounding area.  Ralph is eighty-eight years old and has many health issues.  He was doing well over Christmas with his family, but shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor that had metastasized from a previously undetected tumor in his lung.  He participated in some radiation but given his age, the oncologist can’t do anything further to treat the tumors.  He has transferred from Bangor to Marshall’s Health Care Facility in Machias, Maine for hospice care as close to his family as possible.  Ralph and his wife, Arlene have been on a limited fixed income for over twenty years and could use some financial support from local friends and neighbors to alleviate the financial uncertainty they are now experiencing.   Their son Eric Flood started a go fund me page to help raise some immediate funds to help with a goal of $2500.  So far, the fund has raised $2075 towards this goal.  If anyone wishes to contribute to the go fund me page, go to www.gofundme.com or find the page on Facebook to donate.  With the knowledge that some people are not computer savvy, some individuals have mailed their donation to Arlene Flood direct at 233 Cooper Hwy, Cooper, Maine, 04657.   Anyone wishing to let Ralph know that you are thinking of him can drop him a note or card addressed to Ralph Flood, Marshall’s Health Care Facility, 16 Beal Street, Machias, Maine, 04654.

The Town of Cooper has spoken to Arlene Flood and she reports that Ralph is holding his own and still knows family members and enjoys visiting with them.  With permission from Arlene, a supper is being planned to raise funds to further help them.  We are planning to hold the supper with a Chinese auction and local musical talent on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Alexander Elementary School gym in Alexander, Maine.  I have reached out to local organizations for help with planning the supper and we have also contacted organizations that Ralph has been a member of for most of his life.  We are still in the beginning planning stage and will provide more information as available.  We will need to begin collecting donation items for the Chinese Auction.  Anyone wishing to donate items for the auction can contact me at piketaxcollector@gmail.com or call me at (207) 214-7335.  Ralph and Arlene Flood appreciate the support and love shown to them by their friends and community.
