MLB Jr. Home Run Derby to be Held in Calais

The Major League Baseball Jr. Home Run Derby has made its way to Calais!  This fun and exciting youth competition is being hosted by Calais-Area Fall Baseball, under direction of Coach Matt Vinson.  This local event is a free way for all area youngsters to showcase their hitting abilities, with the opportunity of competing at the National Finals in Washington, DC during MLB All-Star Week in July.

All area boys and girls aged 14 and under are encouraged to participate.  A participant’s age is determined as of July 17, 2018.  Two groups will be made up of boys and girls 12U and boys and girls 14U.  The winner in each group will then advance to the regional competition in New Jersey, and the regional champions will then advance to the National Finals.

Participants must bring to the event a copy of his or her birth certificate and have the legal parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.  There is no exception to this requirement.

We want to see as many home runs as possible, therefore, the rules and distances are designed to promote home runs from participants.  14U will bat from the home plate on the Calais Little League field; 12U will bat from approximately 30’ in front of home plate.

This year’s local MLB Jr. Home Run Derby is taking place Sunday, May 6th  at Dicenzo Athletic Complex, Calais Avenue, Calais.  Registration begins at 10:00 am and ends promptly at 11:00 am, the start of competition.  Soda, hot dogs, nachos and other concessions will be sold, as well as 50/50, to benefit the area fall baseball team.

For questions concerning the competition, including structure and rules, please contact the local coordinator, Matt Vinson:  email or send a Facebook message to Calais-Area Fall Baseball.
