Pioneer Broadband to Construct Fiber Optic Network

Downeast Broadband Utility is pleased to announce that it has retained Pioneer Broadband to oversee the construction of a fiber optic network for Baileyville and Calais.  Board President, Dan Sullivan said, “We’re very pleased to have reached an agreement with Pioneer to manage the construction of the new network, which will encompass approximately 87 miles of fiber.  Pioneer’s extensive resume and enthusiasm for the project has given the Board of Directors full confidence in their abilities and we look forward to working with them.”

Utility Director, Julie Jordan, hopes that construction will begin in both communities sometime in July, but explains that “Even though we are all excited to bring this state of the art infrastructure to our region, there are many factors that can affect the start date for construction.”
