The Milltown C.W.L. will be holding there Spring Yard Sale at St. Patricks Hall on Friday, May 4th and Saturday the 5th from 8-noon, US time.

The Mount View Singers will be at St. Anne’s on Friday, May 4th. It will be a wonderful concert. They come twice a year and it is so relaxing to hear them perform.  

Cinco de Mayo means May 5th in Spanish. The fifth day is a very special day for Mexico, our neighbor to the South. On May 5th, 1862 the Mexican army was victorious over all invading French forces at Pueblo, Mexico. One of the customs in Mexico is to break open a pinata at a party or celebration. When it breaks, all the candy and peanuts fall out to be gathered up by the waiting children. 

If you’ve never heard Matt Linton sing, you need to attend his concert at Second Baptist on Friday, May 11th at 6:30 p.m. You won’t even need your hearing aides. 

On Saturday, May 12th from 7- 9 a.m. a Mother’s Day Breakfast will be served at St. Anne’s Episcopol Church. Eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, toast, fruit, juice, tea & coffee and more will be available. Tickets are $8.

 Be thinking of Mother’s Day on May 13th.

The American Post in Machias celebrated their 99th birthday last Saturday with a ceremony, music and supper. Congratulations.

Daughter Lisa and husband Greg just returned from a cruise to the Caribbean, the weather was in the 70’s and 80’s.

Crocuses, the first flowers of spring, bring a smile to my face. All winter long I anticipated their coming, looking for those first open buds. It makes you think of warm, spring weather not far behind.

Kenny Murphy is in the Calais Hospital, and Alberta Craft is in the Bangor Hospital following a heart attack.

A lot of sickness in our area, thoughts and prayers to each of them!

Fireflies in great numbers indicate fair weather. 


Bakeless Cookies

2 c. sugar

1/2 c. milk

1 stick margarine 

Boil for 1 minute. add 1 pkg butterscotch chips

3/4 cup peanut butter

1 tsp. vanilla

3/4 cup shredded coconut

3 cups rolled oats

Drop on wax paper; let set until firm, store in a covered container. These will keep in fridge for 2 weeks or more.


Mother’s Dumplings

2 c. flour

1 T. salt

3 T. baking powder

1 T. Shortening. 

1 c. milk

Drop spoonfuls onto your favorite soup and cook 10 to 20 minutes without lifting cover.
