In a final push to fund a 14-year fundraising effort to renovate the local fire house as a Historic Fire House museum, the St. Croix No. 1 Fire House Association received welcome support from Down East Credit Union who donated $448.

Branch Manager, Becky Perkins, coordinated a bake sale in the Calais branch and a corporate-wide dress down day to raise funds for the fire house. Perkins adds, “It is always nice to see an historic building being brought back to life, and the positive impact of the history this building has with the City of Calais.”

The St. Croix No. 1 Fire House was built in 1874 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  If you would like to contribute to this cause, donations can be mailed to: St. Croix No. 1 Fire House Association, P.O. Box 605, Calais, ME 04619.
