An unusual opportunity is coming to our area: Canadian Comedian Jonny Harris and his award-winning series, "Still Standing", is traveling to Campobello during the coming week to film for the series’ fifth season. As part of the filming, Harris and a team of comedians will be offering a free comedy show on the island on Wednesday, August 29th.

Harris travels around Canada to “find the hidden comedy in Canada’s struggling communities,” per the series’ promotional materials. The selected areas are then featured in an episode of the show, offering a perspective that is at once entertaining and eye-opening.

Harris and the production team were drawn to Campobello by its unique situation, shared Executive Producer Anne Francis. “A few people had brought Campobello Island to our attention. We were intrigued with the fact that the island is not physically connected to its own country. That’s definitely not something that we’ve ever come across in our search for small Canadian towns to celebrate. We wanted to come explore how the island’s geographical challenges have shaped the community and learn about their unique and long-standing relationship with Maine.”

Produced by Frantic Films, "Still Standing" has garnered significant praise for its efforts in documenting life in the more remote areas of Canada. In 2016, the Canadian Screen Awards named it Best Factual Program or Series, while in 2017 it was honored with Best Host in Lifestyle, Talk or Entertainment News Program, Best Writing in Factual Program, and Best Factual Series. This year, it received Best Writing, Factual.

Harris and the crew will be filming in Campobello between August 25-29th. The free comedy show – which is appropriate for ages 14 and up – will be held at Campobello Island Consolidated School Gymnasium on Wednesday, August 29th at 6 p.m. AST (5 p.m. EST). There are no tickets or reserved seating options available, so come early. Attendees may be filmed or photographed during the comedy show for broadcast when the episode airs next year. Harris will be joined by comedians Fraser Young, Graham Chittenden and Steve Dylan during the comedy show.

The fourth season of "Still Standing" will premiere this year on September 18th, meaning Campobello’s episode – which is for season five – will likely be available next fall. The show will air on CBC, as well as being available via the CBC TV app, and on cbc.ca/watch.
