Award-winning Artist to Teach Painting Workshop

The Eastport Arts Center will offer a painting class for adults with Cheri Walton from 9 am to 3 pm, Saturday, July 16. Participants will use water media, either watercolor or acrylic (a supplies list follows), to paint a still life arrangement. “You learn everything you need to know from still life,” says Walton. “The biggest part of painting is learning to see.”

Walton is a lifelong artist with BA degrees in Studio Art, Art History and Art Education. Her paintings have won awards in state and national shows and are in hundreds of personal collections; she has done commissioned portraits of people and animals for most of her adult life. Throughout the pursuit of her many artistic endeavors, Walton has always taught, leading adult education and Elderhostel classes, doing demonstrations for art organizations, and offering her own painting workshops and private instruction..

Participants will need to bring the following supplies: watercolor paper or canvas if working with acrylics (at least 16x20”); a palette, paint brushes of various sizes, and tubes of paint, including: ultramarine blue, lemon yellow or cadmium yellow light, alizarin crimson, cadmium red light, cadmium yellow medium, white (if using acrylic), and cerulean blue (desirable, but optional). Workshop fee is $60 and preregistration is required. Please email Alison Brennan at alison@eastportartscenter.org or call her at (207) 454-8822 for more information or to sign up.
