Bernardini Family Chosen as Lioness Christmas Parade Grand Marshals

Mrs. Claus and Santa will make an early visit to Calais on Friday, December 2nd for the 19th annual Lioness Christmas Parade.

The City of Calais  will get an early visit from Santa when he stops for the annual Lioness Christmas Parade on December 2nd.  Now in its 19th year, the parade draws hundreds to downtown Calais on the first Friday of each December.

The Lioness Club is pleased to have members of the Bernardini family leading the parade this year as Grand Marshals.  The Bernardini family has been business owners in the city for over 100 years, owning Boston Shoe Store until its closure earlier this year. Above all, the family has always graciously supported numerous organizations and events throughout the Calais area, as well as has coordinated and volunteered at many of them.

This magical event begins at 6:00 pm at Dead River Oil and continues down Main Street to Union Street.  Kids will meet with Mrs. Claus as she walks the parade route with the Lioness elves and will see Santa riding high atop the fire department's ladder truck.

Following the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will meet with children at the downtown triangle park where all in attendance can sign up to win a prize from the Lioness elves, receive a delicious cookie from Mrs. Claus, and of course, tell Santa what goodies they hope to receive this year.

Also in honor of Santa's visit, local merchants throughout town will be offering special sales with big savings during the annual Moonlight Madness Sales.  This will be a great opportunity to shop locally for the holiday season.

The parades in recent years have grown in length with nearly fifty floats in 2014 and in 2015, and this year's is shaping up to be just as grand.  Best of all, there is no fee for any business or organization to take part in this great community tradition.

Those wishing to take part in the parade must pre-register and can do so by completing a parade application which can be picked up at Camden National Bank or received by emailing or calling 214-0565. More information and additional details are available on Facebook: Calais Lioness Club.
