Due to the Christmas Holiday there will be no Select Board meeting and Saturday, December 17th, but will resume on Saturday, January 7th and January 23rd from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.  The next Cooper Planning Board meeting will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 10:00 am.  The time of the meetings are being changed due to the winter weather and difficulty getting out early to get to meetings with snow conditions.  The hours will fall back an hour again once winter has passed.  Town office hours of operation for the month of December will still be held on Thursday, December 15th from 4:30-6:30 pm.  I want to remind everyone that it is time to stop by the office and register your dogs.  All dogs must be registered by January 31, 2016 to avoid late fees.  In the next week I will be sending out foreclosure notices for the 2014 leans notifying residents with a 2014 lien to pay prior to January 26th to avoid loss of property.

Real Estate Tax payments were due on December 1, 2016 so please get your 2016 taxes in to avoid interest costs.  If you have a tractor your tractor excise will be due with your property tax bills by December 1, 2016.  The Select Board has resolved the question regarding excise taxes for tractors.  Tractor excise will be $50.00 for tractors that are 1-5 years old; $25.00 for tractors that are 5-10 years old; and $15.00 for tractors that are over 10 years old.  You can mail the excise for your tractor in with your real estate tax payment or pay during regular office hours or by sending to Laurie Pike, Tax Collector at 152 N. Union Road, Cooper, Maine, 04694.

The Cooper Community Center Friends had a Christmas Party on December 10th from 1:00-4:00 pm for adults and children at the Cooper Community Center with tree lighting at the end of the event.  The Friends Café provided Christmas eats and drinks to enjoy and John Viselli provided some Christmas music for the event.  Fun activities included decorating Christmas Cookies, making bird seed decorations for the outdoor tree and to feed your birds at home, and town tree decorating and lighting.  In keeping with the natural theme, the tree lights are solar lights this year.  In addition to the Cooper Christmas party there was also a surprise birthday party for Joanne McMahon.  Happy Birthday to Joanne!
