Recover from Opening Loss To Win 2017 Event

 

Four quality teams from the county competed in the 2017 Grade 8 and Down Girls Basketball Tournament this past Saturday at Woodland High School. In the opener Calais edged the Lady Dragons 32-25 with Sophie McVicar pacing the win with 9-points and Emily Curtis earning 15-points for Woodland. After Woodland defeated Eastport 32-30 and Narraguagus 50-25, and Calais took Narraguagus 38-16 and Eastport 42-40, the two squads met again for the championship game. 

The teams played even 8-8 in the opening eight and Woodland nudged ahead at the half 16-13. A big third period for the Lady Dragons scoring 13-points paced by Emily Curtis with 7 while holding Calais to 5 gave the local team a big 29-18 advantage. The hosts then added 3-more in the fourth to earn a 41-27 championship victory. Emily Curtis with 23-points and Belle Moody scoring 12 paced the title win. For the Lady Blue Devils Altvater hit 13 and McVicar 10.
