SummerKeys Welcomes Back Cabaret Duo Alpher & Litt

Two Weeks of Classes PLUS An Evening of Cabaret!

The SummerKeys Music School for adults in Lubec, Maine continues to expand the world of art, music and photography to the hundreds of students who flock from near and far to the rocky Down East coast for a “Music Vacation”.  This summer we again enthusiastically welcome Jennie Litt and David Alpher as instructors and performers of cabaret, “an intimate musical art form in which the performers put their personal stamp on a song through honest interpretation of the lyrics”.   During the weeks of July 17 and July 24, the husband-and-wife cabaret and songwriting team of Alpher (pianist/composer) and Litt ( singer/lyricist) will provide group master classes to students – no prior experience is required!  We are also quite pleased to have this duo perform an evening of cabaret at the Congregational Christian Church in Lubec on Thursday, July 20, at 7:30 P.M.

The cabaret duo will be presenting a brand-new show called The Waltz.  Journey with Jennie and David from the Belle Époque ballrooms of Vienna through the twentieth century and beyond in three-quarter time!  The waltz is love's time signature, but it has many other moods as well, as you'll hear in songs by Lehar, Sondheim, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Bacharach, Brel--and of course, Alpher & Litt themselves.

Jennie and David have presented master classes in the art of cabaret performance in New York City, Boston and at Vassar College among other venues. As a duo, they have appeared at most of the major NYC clubs, the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, the Chamber Arts Festival of Marbletown, Nighttown, and on WAMC-Northeast Public Radio. Their 2014 CD “Two Apples” was praised by the critics for its "imagination" and "joie de vivre...this lively album is uplifting in its originality and intelligent word and music play."  The duo can be heard on the CD “Americana”, a live concert with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, recorded during the Chamber Arts Festival of Marbletown's 2005 debut season.  In addition to his cabaret work, Mr. Alpher is an internationally acclaimed composer and recording artist, and a founder of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, now in its 35th season.  For a taste of Alpher & Litt's original songs, check out their CD "Two Apples” which can be found at: and visit their web site:

A reception hosted by SummerKeys will follow the performance.
