Two High Speed Internet Companies Merge

Bill Varney, CEO of Premium Choice Broadband and Andy Hinkley, President of Cornerstone Communications d/b/a MaineStream Internet, have announced the acquisition of Cornerstone and their interest in North Country Broadband by Premium Choice Broadband.

Cornerstone will continue to operate from its present location in Charleston, Maine.  Premium Choice Broadband had purchased Moosehead Cable of Greenville last year. With the purchase of Cornerstone and North Country, the combined companies will now be able to bring high speed internet, telephone, and in some areas cable TV service to a large part of the State of Maine from Jackman and Greenville to the coast, including Washington, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Somerset counties. They will have over 6,000 total subscribers and will be in a position to service many more.

“Cornerstone has a good reputation for quality customer service, and they have been a leader in bringing fiber-optic high-speed internet service to their rural service area,” said Varney.  “There is also a nice geographic fit to our companies.  This acquisition will be a win-win, for both our customers and our staffs.”

“We have been blessed over the past sixteen years with a very dedicated, hard-working staff and a lot of wonderful and loyal customers,” Hinkley said.  “It’s a tough, expensive business for a small company.  The sale of Cornerstone to Premium Choice will give us access to greater resources and additional technologies, which will allow us to serve our existing and new customers with faster speeds and more services.”

Andy Hinkley will stay on with the merged companies in the role of Executive Vice President, assisting Bill Varney, who will be the organization’s Chief Executive Officer.

Premium Choice Broadband was started in 2007 and has rapidly expanded into fiber-optic, DSL, 4LTE and wireless internet.  Cornerstone was started by Andy Hinkley in 2001 and has been a pioneer in fiber-to-the-home, DSL and phone service.  Moosehead Cable was formed by the Richardson Family in 1963; it provides cable TV in 6 locations and has been adding internet service to those locations.  E.J. Richardson is President of Moosehead Cable, which is headquartered in Greenville, Maine.  Premium Choice Broadband has offices in Brewer and Pembroke, Maine.
