Calais’ Scarecrow Fest Has Full Day of Fun Activities Scheduled for Oct. 28

Downtown Calais is the place to be on Saturday, Oct. 28, as the Scarecrow Fest sponsored by Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition (CDRC) has a full day of great activities packed full of fun and downtown merchants are having an all day Trick or Treat, so dress up for this magical day.

All month in October, scarecrows are being displayed on lamp posts throughout the downtown area. A photo-op is even available at your favorite Scarecrow cut-out in Fountain Park which has been decorated for the event, the artistic creation of  Shari Doten and Amy Dicenzo of Artemis’s Attic

The big event for the Fest is going to be the Casket Race beginning at 11 a.m. on Main Street between North and Monroe Streets. Teams who enter a casket (home built or the real thing) vie for $500 and $250 prizes for first and second place and $100 for most creative casket. For more information and to register for this event, call Diane at 214-6581. Sponsored by Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition (CDRC).

While you are waiting for the race to start, head to Triangle Park for a Cookie Decorating sponsored by  St. Croix Media  from 10 to 11 a.m.

From 12 to 1 p.m., Calais Regional Hospital is sponsoring Pumpkin Decorating (while the pumpkins last) to be held at Triangle Park. This event is great fun for the kids.

Calais Free Library is having a Mummy Race at 1 p.m. also at Triangle Park. Bring your camera for this one.

A Pizza Eating Contest begins at 2 p.m. at Triangle Park. This event is sponsored by Jo’s Diner and Pizzeria.

The Cadaver Toss is from 3 to 4 p.m. in Triangle Park. Cadavers will be supplied and the objective is to see who can toss them the farthest. Be at Triangle Park and bring a little muscle with you.

The Witches and Warlocks Walk is back and begins at 4 p.m. Gather at the Nexus Sculpture at Triangle Park and the walk concludes at Jo’s Diner, near Marden’s. Anyone can participate in the Walk. All ghouls and goblins and costumed participants are welcome.

From 4:15 to 5 p.m., Jo’s Diner is offering half price on beer and wine for anyone in costume.
