Businesses and Volunteers Honored at Chamber Event

The 2017 annual event of the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce was held on November 9th at the newly remodeled Armory in Calais. The event, sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank, had a theme of “A Night at the Oscars,” setting the stage for a glamorous evening attended by close to 100 chamber members. Several businesses and volunteers were recognized throughout the evening for their outstanding practices or contributions throughout the year.

Zachary Beane Photography captured each member’s arrival on the “red carpet”.  Following hors d’oeuvres catered by the Nook and Cranny, attendees were entertained by “America’s best regional humorist – Mr. Tim Sample”. Following Sample’s performance, the annual meeting and awards ceremony began.

After a review of this year’s accomplishments, the slate of the 2018 Board of Directors was approved by the members present at the meeting.  The highly anticipated awards ceremony began with the presentation of three new awards:  New Business of the Year – Coastal Glass; Non-Profit of the Year – Calais Community Thrift Store; and Local First – Artemis’s Attic.  The Arlo T. Bates Volunteer of the Year Award went to Randy McCormick and the Roscoe “Rocky” Johnson Award went to Bill Barnett of Riverside Electric.  Certificates of appreciation were presented to seven volunteers who have been working with the executive director these past few months:  Richard Auletta, Sue Berger, Mike Carmody, Matt Greenburg, Susan Greenburg, Cathy Scullin, and Dave Thomas.

The evening concluded with door prize drawings donated by:  V.L. Tammaro Oil, Rachel Ashley Jewelers, Maine-Ly Sticks & Stumps, Pratt Chevrolet Buick GMC, Dead River Company, The Calais Advertiser, First National Bank, St. Croix Country Club, Camden National Bank, F.A. Peabody Company, Dunkin’ Donuts, Varney Agency, Bangor Savings Bank, and PCT Communications.  The entertainment was sponsored by Jo’s Diner & Pizzeria, Machias Savings Bank, Down East Insurance Agency, PCT Communications, and Washington County Community College.  The awards were sponsored by Eastern Maine Electric Co-Op, Calais Regional Hospital, First National Bank, Downeast Lakes Land Trust, and the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce.
