A special thanks to Linda Curtis for sponsoring the 15th Annual Memory Tree event for Grand Lake Stream this year. A fully decorated tree was placed outside and people gather around in memory of some one that has passed. Pastor Morse and Marie were in attendance and dedicated the Veterans Wreath. The pastor  also read the names of veterans. Then each family member wishing to hang an ornament or other symbol in memory of someone stepped forward to do so. At the conclusion of the service taps were played and then everyone went inside and enjoyed Linda’s seafood chowder, corn chowder and all the other dishes provided by those attending.

The Grand Lake Stream Congregational Church will hold a candlelight service on December 17, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. This service is in lieu of the regular 9:15 morning service on December 17th.

What a great way to celebrate some of the wonders we have in Grand Lake Stream by being part of the annual bird count. Here are some details!!  Downeast Lakes Land Trust is sponsoring a count circle for the 118th Christmas Bird Count! Organized by The Audubon Society,  Audubon and other organizations use bird data collected in this long-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations, and to help guide conservation action.  DLLT’s participation date is this Friday, December 15th, beginning at 8 am, with most of the count area located in the 55,000-acre Downeast Lakes Community Forest.  Head into the community forest and help document the many species of birds that call the Downeast Lakes region home! Interested participants must pre-register for this exciting volunteer opportunity, and birds can even be counted from home.  If you are interested in participating in this unique event, please contact DLLT Education and Outreach Manager Colin Brown for more details at cbrown@downeastlakes.org or call 207-796-2100

Be sure and remember that the Pine Tree Store will be closing by 6:00 p.m. in the evenings during the month of December. The store will continue to open at 7 a.m. and after the turn of the year starting in January the store hours will go back to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. I plan to do some Christmas shopping there this weekend.

Just a reminder that there will be a pot luck dinner for members of the Snowmobile Club on December 27 at the Clubhouse at 4:00 p.m. Also remember that the Club meets the last Wednesday of each month at the club house at 6:30 in the evening.

Have a great week!
