The Washington County Sheriff's office reported that on Saturday, Dec. 9 the Washington County Regional Communications Center (RCC) received a 911 call from a woman in East Machias reporting a home invasion.

The woman said that a man had entered her home brandishing a weapon and demanding money. The suspect left on foot, and the RCC dispatched deputies to the scene. The deputies were assisted by the Machias Police Department, Maine State Police and Maine Marine Patrol.

A warrant for the arrest of Jason Jackson, 33, of East Machias was issued as a result of the alleged home invasion.

The Attorney General’s Office confirmed today that it is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday night in Machiasport.

Washington County deputy sheriffs, assisted by an officer of the Maine Marine Patrol, located Jackson at a residence in Machiasport.

An armed confrontation with the Marine Patrol officer ensued resulting in both Jackson and a female resident being shot and injured. A spokesperson for the AG said that Marine Patrol has put the officer on paid leave, and that the Attorney General’s Office investigates all uses of deadly force by a law enforcement officer in Maine.
