Dragons Drop Barn Burner To Fort Kent
The Woodland Dragons have a 10-1 mark through Monday’s contest and are still atop the Class D Heal Point System. On Tuesday a solid Class C Fort Kent traveled to Baileyville to face the Dragons for the first time on this season. In the prelims at home last season Woodland took a 2 point victory to earn a birth in the Northern Maine Class C Championships in Bangor. Monday afternoon it was another thriller as Fort Kent led after 8 minutes 23-15 and then extended their control to a 37-23-advantage midway. The Dragons had a superb 3rd frame holding their guests to a single basket, as they got within 4 points with 8 minutes remaining. In the final eight Drew Hayward took charge nailing 11 points earning a 50-50 overtime period. While the overtime was being realized the Dragons were losing players to 5 fouls and in the 4 minute OT the fifth Woodland player went out of the game. The bench played tough, but it was too much as they lost on 8 made free throws 58-52. Drew paced his squad with 24 points, Sabre Phelps hit 9, and Justin Worden added 12.

At Hodgdon the guests jumped early to a 38-25 lead at the half and then played everyone to a 65-46 victory. Pacing the win was Justin Worden with 16 points and 15 rebounds, Chris Plissey hit a strong 19 points, Sabre Phelps (8 rebounds) and Gavin Gardner (4 steals) added 10 points apiece, and Drew Hayward earned 7 assists with 5 steals.

The Dragons hosted the Shead Tigers this past week and played even for a frame, 15-12, but then powered to a 40-22 lead at the half and never looked back powering to an 84-47 victory. Sabre Phelps paced the Dragons as he hit 16 points and ripped 12 rebounds, Drew Hayward earned a big 20 points, Chris Plissey added 14, Justin Worden 13, and Alex Morrison 11 in the balanced attack win. On the Tigers ledger Darren Turner earned 22 points and Ethan Lank 10.
