Tom Webster, a graduate from the 1986 class of Calais Middle High School and son to Thomas and Carol Webster of Calais, has been named as the Senior Vice President of Strategy for Edison Research, a custom market research company that is the sole provider of all exit-polling data in United States elections for all of the major news networks. Edison Research is based out of New Jersey.

After graduating from CMHS, Webster went on to gain a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University, and then became a Master of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina. He conducted additional post graduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University. He began his work at Edison Research in 2004.

For the past 20 years, Webster has been researching how consumers use and respond to technology, including social networking and new forms of media. He has written several widely-referenced studies, including The Social Habit and Twitter Users in America, and is the co-author of such major publications as The Infinite Dial, now the longest-running research series on digital consumption in America.

“Tom Webster is the epitome of the 3 I’s: Intelligence, Insight, and Integrity,” commented Christopher Penn, Vice President of Marketing Technology at SHIFT Communications of Massachusetts. “There are few people whose word I trust without hesitation when it comes to data, analysis, and insight. Tom is one of those handful of people who does the hard work to be unimpeachable.”

Webster’s father, who continues to reside in Calais, said that his son’s success demonstrates the potential offered in the Calais education system. “The education’s there if they want it,” the senior Webster shared.
