Fall Baseball Tryout Date Announced

Kobe Saunders from Calais makes a nice stretch at first base during a fall ballgame at Bangor's Mansfield Stadium last season. Kobe will be a returning player to the 13 to 15 year old Calais-Area Fall Baseball team this year, along with Braden Barrett and Eli Andrews from Woodland, Tony Dana and Matt Dana from Indian Township, and Jarrod McDonald and Zach Bridges from Calais. Even though the typical baseball season has ended, the fun does not have to end with the completion of Cal Ripken, Little League, or junior high teams.  Kids can get in some extra months of baseball by playing on a Calais-Area Fall Baseball team.  Now entering its fourth season, there will again be two teams:  ages 9 to 12 and ages 13 to 15.  Tryouts for the teams are slated for July 15th.

Playing on a Calais-Area Fall Baseball team is a major commitment for both players and parents.  With practices held throughout the week beginning next month, there are also double-headers every Sunday through September and October.  The games are typically held in the Bangor area, so traveling is required.

The league that the fall ball team plays in uses rules much like those of little league or junior high with only a few exceptions, mainly that all team members bat using a continuous batting order and three outs or six runs will constitute a half inning.  As well, no player sits out for two consecutive innings, so team members see a lot of field time.

Kids who are able to meet the commitment requirements and would like to tryout for Calais-Area Fall Baseball will need to pre-register.  This can be done simply by sending the child's name, age, date of birth, and town of residence in a private message to the Calais-Area Fall Baseball Facebook page.  More information with specific details can also be found on the Facebook page.
