Sarah Smith Receives MPA Principal’s Award

(Calais)—Sarah Smith of Calais, Maine a senior at Calais Middle/High School, has been selected to receive the 2013 Principal’s Award, Principal Cohnstaedt announced today. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Welcome, readers, to the Dragon’s Den. This week, students were pleased to have only four days with school in session. Despite the short amount of days, we still have a substantial amount of news. So get out your limbo sticks, because you’re about to get the low-down on this week’s news!

Last week, Calais High School students participated in two very important events- the annual Polar Bear Dip and the SkillsUSA Skill and Leadership Championships for the state of Maine.  In both cases, they went above and beyond expectations and proudly represented Calais.

Last Thursday, you would have been hard-pressed to name the more impressive event- the National Technical Honor Society Induction Ceremony or the drama club’s spectacular performance of Final Placement.  Both events made Calais High School proud as students shined in their roles.

Mr. Ross, Upper School ELA: Grades 7/8 have begun their guided reading of The Pearl by John Steinbeck, a novella written as a parable in 1947 based on a Mexican folktale.

This week we read and examined chapters two and three.
